bedtime

I'm sitting here at 10:25 pm, contemplating why I'm not already in bed and Rachel walks past, puts on her shoes, finds a DVD and heads out the door. At 10:25 pm. To go across town and watch a movie. In the middle of the night. And she has classes in the morning.
Did we ever do that? I have such vague memories of that life - social events at all hours of the day and night. Oh to be 21 again!
(But actually, I'm glad I'm about ready to put on my jammies and climb into a warm comfortable bed. )

block party

A strange thing happened Friday night. This was in the street in front of our house. Yes -- this car is upside down, on our small residential street riddled with speed bumps. And it was an accident involving only one moving vehicle. I still can't figure out how it happened. (By the way, the woman who was driving this car was eventually able to wriggle herself out of the window and was sitting up talking to the EMTs. She was dazed and confused about why she had been folded in half upside down in a pile of broken glass, though. An ambulance immediately whisked her away. I don't know who she is or how she is doing.)
What apparently happened was this -- she pulled out of a driveway less than a block away. She drove down our street and hit the corner of Rachel's car parked at the curb in front of our house. Rachel's car was shoved backwards about 12 feet and this woman's car flipped over! How does that happen??
Rachel's car has very little visual damage. The body of her car seems to have been saved, although there is obviously some misalignment to the tires/axle/frame something. The front tires point in different directions now.
The street was blocked off, there were 2 fire trucks, 2 police vehicles, and a tow truck. The event pulled neighbors out of their houses all up and down the street. It was all very fascinating. Rachel commented that she had never met so many neighbors. (We should have had a block watch meeting while we were all together!)

melanie-isms

"So Mom, if you could have three wishes, what would you wish for? . . . and none of that 'peace on earth' crap."

Mel "Dad, are you going to buy me a car when I get older?"
Dave "I didn't buy your sisters or your brother a car, I don't know why I would buy you one."

Mel "Dad, why are you bringing up things that don't have anything to do with this conversation. I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about ME!!" "Indubidibly!"

The dog kept me up this WHOLE morning . . . from like 6:10 until 6:20.

These chew sticks you got for Lexi? She loves them. I gave her one this morning and she like devoured it in 10 minutes. Then I tried one. They don't really taste that great.
"BOWM CHICKA BOWM BOWM"

If Lexi is afraid of Dad, how is she ever going to get herself a man?
(On the phone talking to her best friend who had been sick and socially unavailable for approximately 8 hours): "I just HAD to hear your VOICE!!!"

"Indeed!!"

rules of the game

Rachel: Next day retaliation is NOT ALLOWED!

Placing a creepy stuffed mannequin lady inside the door of your dark bedroom in a dark house for when you come home late at night --- hilarious!!!

Finding the creepy stuffed mannequin lady in the dark kitchen unexpectedly the next morning --- not funny!!!
